This bachelor's thesis is concerned with the design and optimization of a trading strategy on Foreign Exchange – particularly on EURUSD currency pair. The strategy makes use of standard indicators used in technical analysis and is consequently optimized and backtested using history data. The thesis addresses both the development of such a strategy and the main pitfalls, ones with which I have came in contact with and had to solve, are discussed.

This master thesis in its opening chapter inform about some basic charakteristics of New York Stock Exchange. Then indicators and tools of fundamental and technical analysis of stocks are explained in folowing chapters. In practical part of the thesis is taking place a evaluation of fundamental and technical analysis based on historical data from american stock market. For this prupose the data of constituents companies of Dow Jones Industrial Average index are used covering market history as far as possible.

Technical analysis of stocks

The aim of this thesis is to give information about the technical analysis, its essentials and the chosen tools. In the following it describes two main theories which reject the use of the technical analysis for the future predictions of the stocks prices namely the efficient market theory and the random walk theory. It includes an example of the back-test of the business strategy and a practical demonstration of the stocks trading. Thesis is divided into five parts. The first one describes stocks and their trading. The second one analyses the efficient market theory and the random walk theory. In the third part there is a description of the technical analysis itself and its tools. The fourth part shows business strategy back-test and the last part illustrates the practical trading.
